Telling Grandpa Skip.

Clay couldn't keep a secret for much longer so we went to the marina to tell Skip.

We gave him a pair of shoes that had a skull and crossbones on them.

3 grandparents down.

1 more to go.

In person is a must, so it looks like Mother's Day is the day!

Old Wives Tale 1

I may have lost my mind a little bit and decided that I am going to try to see how many Old Wives tales will be correct about the sex of the baby. I came across one that you mix urine and baking soda. If it bubbles like beer you are supposed to have a boy and if it doesn't bubble it's a girl.

So I did it and it bubbled like beer so I guess it is a boy.

Don't watch unless you want to see baking soda and urine mix.

No more internet.

As of today, I have been banned from the Internet and Google by Clay and my mother.

Telling Katy's family.

On Saturday night we went up to Irmo after Clay got off work to celebrate the future great-grandfather's 80th birthday!

When we got there my dad was off at a drag race in Charlotte so we couldn't break the baby news then so we had to bite our tongues until the next morning at breakfast. We convinced my mom and dad, grandparents, Aunt Karen, and Dalton to have breakfast at Grandma's before the birthday celebration. We gave my mom a book called "Some Day" and had her read it to all of us. When it got to the point in the story where the daughter has a child of her own I had taped a picture of the pregnancy tests with "Guess What?!?" written above it. This is the result:

After breakfast Mom and I went shopping to look at formal dresses for our cruise in July. We found two dresses that were perfect and double checked to make sure that they would be stretchy enough by shoving a cardigan and scarf up the dress. :-)

After the shopping excursion we went to Ryan's to celebrate Papa's birthday and then we all went bowling.

Oh, and the baby has now been nicknamed "Leo the Embryo." :-)

And growing a human is exhausting. I need a nap just from typing this.

Charleston friends.

Today we went to lunch with Natasha at Triangle and told her. She immediately FaceTimed Mike who was "stuck" in Hawaii for work. They have agreed to be the Charleston surrogate Aunt & Uncle since our family is a few hours away. :-)

Telling the dogs.

If you know us, you know that we will need to prepare our furkids for the new human in the house.

They are really liking the word "baby" for now.

Uncle & Aunt

Today we told Uncle Jeb & Aunt Corey, because keeping a big secret is hard.

Co-workers & First Appt.

Today I told Robin & Judith at work because they have both been praying for this moment along with us. Clay called Linda and told Rob & Chris at work. It's wonderful to have supportive co-workers that know why we will be in and out of work in the future.

Robin also referred me to an OB-GYN in Mt Pleasant and I scheduled our first appointment on May 6 with a midwife. The lady on the phone told be I was about 5 weeks and I would be due on Christmas Day. MIND BLOWN.

Positive.

You ever have those days where you wake up feeling kind of off? Today was one of those days.

I woke up remembering that my period was a few days late and decided to use one of the cheap test strips I had in the cabinet. This is what showed up:

I could see a faint line, but according to the test it was probably a bad test and I should do another one. I only have so much urine in me in a five minute window, so I just chalked the late period up to work stress and went along my day.

I had horrible heartburn and was exhausted the entire day. When I got home I figured that I might as well use the early pregnancy test that was supposed to tell us "5 days sooner." Of course I thought it wouldn't give me this:

But it did. :-) Join me in saying a collective "HOLY SH*T!" because that is what I said at that exact moment. I ran downstairs and filled a big glass of water that I started chugging on my way to CVS to pick up a digital test. The pharmacy assistant laughed at me when I told her I wanted the digital tests after already getting the positive. She told me I was "crazy for spending that much money when [I] already knew [I] am pregnant." I found another bottle of water in the car and chugged that on the way back to the house. I barely made it in the house because my bladder was about to explode.

Digital test confirmed. Two tests really can't be a false positive, right? It was 6:30 and Clay wasn't going to be home for another almost three hours. My brain was going a mile a minute so I texted my college bff since she has been in the same shoes before because I had to tell SOMEONE right then and there. I debated with driving to Clay's work to tell him, but decided against it. I pulled out the baby outfit that I had saved in my closet for months and wrapped it up for Clay. I decided to text Clay to let him know that a late anniversary gift had shown up that day since our anniversary was a week before.

And then I had to be patient for almost two and half hours. I cleaned. I watched tv. I flipped through a magazine. I convinced Clay that we needed to go get Mexican for dinner. And I stalked Clay when I knew he was on the way home.

Finally, the moment had arrived and I could give Clay his belated anniversary present.

Then we went to Mexican to celebrate the Best. Day. Ever.
